How to use

How the calculation works
This tool treats any run of letters (in any script), digits and apostrophes as a word, counts how often each word occurs, and lists them from most to least frequent. Punctuation, symbols and whitespace separate words. Ties are sorted alphabetically. With case-insensitive counting, everything is lowercased first, so "The" and "the" count as the same word. Apostrophes are part of words, so "don't" is a single word. For languages that put spaces between words, such as English, this gives accurate per-word counts. Japanese has no spaces between words, so each unbroken stretch of characters up to a punctuation mark or symbol counts as a single "word".
Worked example
"the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog. the dog barks." the: 3 dog: 2 barks, brown, fox, jumps, lazy, over, quick: 1 each 12 words in total. For the Japanese "ไปๆฅใฏ่ฏใๅคฉๆฐใงใใไปๆฅใฏๆดใใ", "ไปๆฅใฏ่ฏใๅคฉๆฐใงใ" and "ไปๆฅใฏๆดใ" each count as a single word.
Things to be aware of
- Japanese is not split into words; each stretch up to punctuation counts as one unit.
- Only the top 50 words are shown.
- Function words such as "the" and "a" dominate the top of the list; set them aside when looking at content.
- Singular and plural forms (dog, dogs) count as different words.

Does this work with non-English text?
