Music

Tempo, pitch and acoustics calculations for playing and producing music.

Practical aids like a metronome and tuning reference tones, plus delay time from BPM, note-to-frequency tables, cent calculations, transposition, the circle of fifths, chord and scale lookup, string tension and fret spacing. On the acoustics side there are tools built on standard engineering formulas: RT60 from the Sabine equation, air-column resonance in open and closed pipes, sound wavelength, and pressure and power ratios from a decibel difference. Useful for dialling in delay settings in a DAW, or getting a rough picture of the acoustics in a practice room or recording space.

What people use these for

  • Find the delay time in milliseconds that matches a given BPM
  • Play a reference tone for tuning an instrument
  • Work out the sounding key when a capo is fitted
  • Estimate a room's reverberation time (RT60)
