Convert Japanese full-width (zenkaku) alphanumeric characters and symbols to half-width (hankaku), or the other way around, in one batch. Useful when a form rejects full-width digits, or when you want to normalize pasted text to half-width or full-width for consistent display.
How to use

How the calculation works
In Unicode, full-width letters, digits and symbols ("๏ผ" to "๏ฝ", U+FF01โU+FF5E) appear in the same order as their half-width counterparts ("!" to "~", U+0021โU+007E), exactly 0xFEE0 code points apart. This tool converts between them by shifting that amount. Spaces convert between the full-width space (U+3000) and the normal space. When converting to half-width, characters outside that range are left alone โ for example the full-width yen sign "๏ฟฅ" (U+FFE5) and the long-vowel mark "ใผ". Hiragana, katakana and kanji are not converted either. It is useful when a web form rejects full-width digits in a phone number or postcode field, or for tidying up letters and digits copied from elsewhere.
Worked example
Full-width โ half-width "๏ผก๏ผข๏ผฃ๏ผ๏ผ๏ผ๏ผ๏ผ " โ "ABC123!@" Full-width spaces become normal spaces too. "๏ฟฅ" and "ใผ" are outside the range, so "๏ฝ๏ฟฅ๏ผใผ" becomes "x๏ฟฅ-ใผ" (the full-width hyphen "๏ผ" does become "-"). Half-width โ full-width "Tel: 03-1234" โ "๏ผด๏ฝ ๏ฝ๏ผใ๏ผ๏ผ๏ผ๏ผ๏ผ๏ผ๏ผ"
Things to be aware of
- Converting katakana between full-width and half-width (๏ฝถ๏พ๏ฝถ๏พ ) is not supported.
- The full-width "๏ฟฅ" and the long-vowel mark "ใผ" are not converted.
- A half-width "\" becomes the full-width "๏ผผ". Note that Japanese fonts often display the half-width "\" as a yen sign "ยฅ".
- Your text is processed in the browser and never sent anywhere.

Does this convert full-width katakana to half-width katakana too?
No. The current version only handles full-width alphanumerics, symbols, and spaces โ katakana conversion is not included.
Are Japanese kanji or hiragana characters affected?
No. Kanji, hiragana, and katakana are left untouched; only half-width/full-width alphanumerics, symbols, and spaces are converted.
Can this help fix form submission errors?
