FAQ

How are the frequencies calculated?

Using the internationally standard reference of A4 = 440Hz and the equal-temperament formula (each semitone multiplies the frequency by the 12th root of 2), giving the precise frequency for each note.

Does this work accurately through a phone's built-in speaker?

It usually works fine, but small speakers can struggle to reproduce low frequencies accurately (like a bass's lowest strings). Headphones or external speakers are recommended when possible.

Does this support alternate tunings (like open tunings)?

No, this currently only covers each instrument's standard tuning. For alternate tunings, look up the frequency for your target note using another tool, such as a note-to-frequency reference table.
