FAQ

What is a "seventh" chord?

A four-note chord formed by adding a 7th above a basic three-note triad. Major seventh, minor seventh, and dominant seventh chords each add a different type of 7th, giving each a distinct sound.

How are enharmonic notes (like C# and Db) shown?

This tool always displays notes using sharp (#) notation. If you need flat (b) notation, translate the shown sharp note to its flat equivalent (e.g. Db = C#).

Does the order the notes are listed in matter?

The notes are listed in root-position order (starting from the root). In actual playing, chords are often played in inversions, where the note order is rearranged.
