How the calculation works
This tool estimates a dog's age in human years. Dogs grow up quickly in their first year or two and then age more slowly, so the old "multiply by 7" rule underestimates young dogs and overestimates old ones. Things to be aware of
- Larger dogs tend to age faster and have shorter lives; for large breeds, some guides add 6โ7 years per year after age 3.
- A 2019 University of California study based on DNA changes (an epigenetic clock) proposed human age = 16 ร ln(dog age) + 31.
