Convert between Arabic numerals and Japanese kanji numerals (ไธใปไบใปไธ...ๅใป็พใปๅใปไธใปๅใปๅ ). Useful for filling out Japanese documents or gift envelopes, or for reading older Japanese texts that use kanji numerals.

How the calculation works
This tool converts between Arabic numerals and Japanese kanji numerals. To convert a number to kanji, it first splits the number into groups of four digits from the right, because Japanese large units change every four digits: ไธ (10โด), ๅ (10โธ) and ๅ (10ยนยฒ). Each group is written with the thousands, hundreds and tens places (ๅ, ็พ, ๅ), followed by ไธ, ๅ or ๅ . A "one" before ๅ, ็พ or ๅ is left out (10 โ ๅ, 100 โ ็พ), but it is kept before ไธ, ๅ and ๅ (10000 โ ไธไธ). Zero places are not written; ใ is used only when the whole number is zero. To convert kanji to a number, it reads one character at a time from the left. When ๅ, ็พ or ๅ appears, the digit before it is multiplied and added to the current four-digit group; when ไธ, ๅ or ๅ appears, the whole group is multiplied and added to the total. Notation with no place characters, such as ไบใไบๅ ญ, is read one character per digit.

Things to be aware of
- The formal daiji numerals used on contracts and receipts (ๅฃฑ, ๅผ, ๅ, ๆพ and so on) are not supported.
- Only integers from 0 to 999,999,999,999,999 are supported; decimals and negative numbers are not.
- Whether to write ไธ before ๅ (ๅไธ vs ไธๅไธ) depends on the document and convention. This tool leaves out the ไธ before ๅ, ็พ and ๅ.
FAQ
Does this support the formal "daiji" numerals (ๅฃฑใปๅผใปๅ)?
No, this tool only supports the everyday kanji numerals (ไธใปไบใปไธ). It doesn't support the formal daiji forms used in legal documents.
Does it support zero (ใ)?
Yes, entering 0 converts to ใ.
What's the largest number this supports?
Integers up to 999 trillion, 9999ๅ9999ไธ9999 (using the ๅ /ๅ/ไธ place system).
Can it read notation like ไบใไบๅ ญ?
Yes. If the input has no place characters (ๅ, ็พ, ๅ, ไธ and so on), each character is read as one digit, so ไบใไบๅ ญ becomes 2026 and ไธใใ becomes 100.
