How the calculation works
This table lists shoe sizes from different countries against foot length in centimetres. Japanese sizes (JIS) are simply the foot length: "25.0" is a 25 cm foot, and "250" is the same length in millimetres. US, UK and EU sizes are based on the inside length of the shoe (the last), and each uses a different step. US and UK sizes go up by 1/3 inch (about 8.5 mm) per size, while EU sizes use the Paris point of 2/3 cm (about 6.7 mm). US sizes use different scales for men and women: for the same foot, the women's number is 1.5 higher. UK sizes are the same for men and women and are 1 lower than US men's. Each row gives the usual conversion for foot lengths in 0.5 cm steps.

Things to be aware of
- Measure foot length standing up, from the heel to the tip of the longest toe. Feet swell during the day, so measuring in the evening is best.
- Actual fit varies by brand and type of shoe (sneakers, dress shoes, boots). When buying online from abroad, also check the brand's own size chart.
- Foot width (E, EE, EEE and so on) is not covered by this table.
- Children's shoes use a different scale, so this table does not apply to them.

How accurate is this size chart?
It's a general reference โ actual fit varies by brand and shoe type (sneakers, dress shoes, etc.). Trying shoes on in person is recommended whenever possible.
Are men's and women's sizes shown separately?
JP, UK and EU sizes are shared by men and women. US sizes differ: for the same foot length, women's sizes are 1.5 higher (a 25 cm foot is men's 7, women's 8.5), so this table shows US men's and women's sizes in separate columns.
Does this cover children's shoe sizes?
