๐ŸชŸ Curtain Fabric Calculator

Any consistent unit works (e.g. cm) โ€” just use the same unit for all values.

Required total fabric width400
Fabric widths needed3
Fabric length per panel225
Total fabric length675

Enter your curtain rail (or window) width, fullness ratio, the width of the fabric you're using, the finished drop, and the heading/hem allowances to calculate how many fabric widths (panels) you need and the total fabric length to buy. If your fabric has a pattern, you can also enter its repeat size.

How to use

  1. Enter the rail width and the fullness ratio (commonly 1.5x-3x โ€” set whatever your curtain style calls for).
  2. Enter the fabric width you're using, the finished drop, and the heading (top) and hem (bottom) allowances.
  3. If your fabric has a repeating pattern, enter its repeat size (leave at 0 if not applicable).
  4. The number of fabric widths and total fabric length needed are calculated automatically.

FAQ

What is the fullness ratio?

It's the multiplier for how much more fabric width you use relative to the window width, to create the curtain's pleats or gathers. A higher ratio gives fuller, more voluminous pleats. Set it to whatever your curtain style calls for.

What does entering a pattern repeat do?

If you enter the size of your fabric's repeating pattern, the fabric length per panel is rounded up to the nearest multiple of that repeat, so the pattern lines up when multiple panels are hung side by side.

What formula is being used?

Required total fabric width = rail width ร— fullness ratio. Fabric widths needed = required total width divided by fabric width, rounded up. Fabric length per panel = drop + heading allowance + hem allowance (rounded up to a multiple of the pattern repeat if given). Total fabric length = fabric widths needed ร— length per panel โ€” standard curtain-making arithmetic.
