Some workplaces treat different days as the weekend โ for example, businesses closed Friday and Saturday, or restaurants closed Sunday and Monday. This tool lets you pick any combination of weekdays as your weekend, then count business days between two dates or find the date N business days from a starting date.
How to use
- Select the days of the week that count as weekend days (defaults to Saturday and Sunday).
- Choose the "Count business days" or "Add business days" mode.
- Enter dates to see the result based on your custom weekend setting.
How the calculation works
Choose which days of the week are days off, then count business days or find the date a number of business days away. It works for any schedule, not just SaturdayโSunday weekends. Count business days: counts the days between the start and end dates, including both, that are not days off. Add business days: starts counting the day after the base date and shows the business day that many days later. A negative number counts backwards. Use it for a hair salon closed Sunday and Monday, an office closed on Wednesdays, or partners in countries with a FridayโSaturday weekend, such as Saudi Arabia.
Worked example
Business days from October 1 to October 31, 2026 SaturdayโSunday off: 22 days FridayโSaturday off: 21 days SundayโMonday off: 23 days The same month gives different counts depending on the days off, because which weekdays occur five times depends on how the month starts and ends.
Things to be aware of
- Public holidays are not included. To skip Japanese holidays too, use the Business Days Calculator.
- If every day is a day off, there are 0 business days and โAdd business daysโ cannot give a result.
- Up to 100,000 business days can be added.
FAQ
Does this account for public holidays?
No โ this tool only excludes the days of the week you select; individual public holidays are not factored in. To skip Japanese holidays too, use the Business Days Calculator.
Can I set zero or all seven days as weekend days?
Yes. Uncheck all days to treat every day as a business day. Check all seven and there are 0 business days, so โAdd business daysโ shows no result because there is no day to land on.
How is this different from the standard Business Days Calculator?
The standard calculator always uses Saturday and Sunday as the weekend. This tool supports workplaces โ like restaurants or service businesses โ whose days off fall on different days of the week.
