A countdown timer with free hour/minute/second input, quick presets, a progress ring showing time remaining at a glance, and a choice of alert sound. Useful for cooking, studying, or timing a break.
How to use
- Enter hours/minutes/seconds, or choose a preset (1 min, 3 min, 5 min, etc.).
- Choose an alert sound.
- Click "Start" to begin the countdown.
How the calculation works
This timer counts down from the time you set and plays a sound when it reaches zero. Enter hours, minutes and seconds, or pick a preset from 1 to 30 minutes. When you press Start, the timer records the time it should end and works out the remaining time from that. Even if the display pauses for a moment, the remaining time does not drift. The sound still plays at the end time while you are looking at another tab or the browser is minimised. Browsers may delay it by about a second in background tabs.
Worked example
Instant noodles Press the “3 min” preset and Start. The bell rings after 3 minutes. A focused study session Enter 0 h 45 m 0 s and Start. Press Pause for a break and Resume to carry on from the remaining time.
Things to be aware of
- Closing the tab or the browser stops the timer. Keep the page open until it finishes.
- On phones, turning off the screen or switching to another app can suspend the browser, and the sound may not play.
- If you cannot hear it, check your device volume and silent mode.
FAQ
Does it work accurately in a background tab?
Yes. The timer counts from its end time, so the remaining time stays correct while you use other tabs, and the sound plays at the end time (browsers may delay it by about a second). Closing the tab, or turning off a phone screen, can stop it.
Can I change the alarm sound?
Yes. You can choose from several sounds, including a bell, a beep, or silent.
Can I use this as a cooking timer?
