How the calculation works
This tool finds dates defined by position and weekday, such as โthe fourth Thursday of Novemberโ or โthe last Friday of Septemberโ. It starts with the current month. How it works Nth: find the first occurrence of the weekday from the weekday of the 1st, then add 7 days at a time. Last: count back from the last day of the month to the chosen weekday. Not every month has a fifth occurrence. A month has 28โ31 days, so a fifth one exists only if that weekday falls again on or after the 29th. If it does not, the tool shows โnot foundโ.

Things to be aware of
- Several holidays are defined this way, such as US Memorial Day (last Monday of May) and Japanโs Coming of Age Day, Marine Day, Respect for the Aged Day and Sports Day.
- The โ4thโ and the โlastโ weekday are the same in some months and a week apart in others. When setting a regular date, make clear which one you mean.

FAQ
Why does it sometimes show "not found"?
Some months donโt have a 5th occurrence of a given weekday (e.g. if a month has only 4 Fridays, there is no 5th Friday).
Can this calculate US holiday dates?
Yes โ for example, Thanksgiving (4th Thursday of November) or Memorial Day (last Monday of May), which are defined by weekday rules like this.
How is "last" calculated?
It works backward from the last day of the month to find the first date that matches the selected weekday.
