How the calculation works
Generate a GS1-128 barcode, used in logistics and healthcare. Based on Code 128, it is an international standard that combines several pieces of data in one barcode, each marked by an Application Identifier (AI) number that says what it means. AIs available here (01) GTIN product code (14 digits, the last a check digit) (10) Batch or lot number (17) Expiry date (YYMMDD) (21) Serial number The GTIN check digit and the month and day of the expiry date are verified automatically, with an error shown if they are wrong. When scanned, the data comes out as one string without brackets, such as โ01โฆ17โฆ10โฆโ.

Things to be aware of
- After variable-length fields such as lot or serial numbers, a separator (FNC1) is inserted automatically.
- In Japan, packaging for prescription medicines and medical devices must carry GS1-128 or GS1 DataBar markings.
- To use a 13-digit JAN code as a GTIN, add a leading 0 to make 14 digits.
