๐Ÿ”ฒ Micro QR Code Generator

โœ“

Micro QR Code is a compact variant of the QR Code developed by Denso Wave, with just a single finder pattern. It needs a smaller print area than a standard QR Code but holds less data.

Enter a short piece of text to generate a Micro QR Code, a more compact version of the standard QR Code. It's well suited for labeling small components or industrial parts where print space is limited, but it holds far less data than a standard QR Code.

How to use

  1. Enter the short text you want to encode (roughly up to 35 numeric characters, or about 21 alphanumeric characters).
  2. Download the generated Micro QR Code as SVG or PNG.

How the calculation works

Generate a Micro QR code for printing in very small spaces. It uses a single position-detection square (finder pattern) instead of the three in the corners of a regular QR code. There are four sizes, from M1 (11ร—11 modules) to M4 (17ร—17), chosen to fit your input. Capacity is very small: even the largest, M4, holds at most 35 digits, 21 alphanumeric characters or 15 bytes (about 5 Japanese characters). Longer input gives an error.

Worked example

Part number โ€œA12-3456โ€ (8 characters) โ†’ fits in about M3 Maximum capacity (M4, error correction L) Digits: 35 Alphanumeric: 21 Bytes: 15 Most URLs will not fit; use a regular QR code for those.

Things to be aware of

  • Smartphone camera apps often cannot read Micro QR codes; a dedicated reader or app may be needed.
  • The margin can be narrower than for regular QR codes: two modules is enough.
  • Common in industry for electronic components and tiny labels where print space is very limited.

FAQ

How is this different from a standard QR Code?

A Micro QR Code has only one finder pattern (versus three on a standard QR Code), giving it a simpler structure that fits in a smaller print area โ€” at the cost of holding much less data.

Can I encode a long string like a URL?

No โ€” Micro QR Code capacity is very small, so most typical URLs won't fit. Use the standard QR Code generator for longer content.

What is it typically used for?

It's suited for marking electronic components or small industrial parts and tiny labels โ€” cases with very limited print space and a small amount of data to encode.
