How the calculation works
Enter a family name, given name, phone, email and address to make a QR code in MeCard format that saves the contact when scanned. MeCard is a compact contact format devised by NTT Docomo for Japanese mobile phones; it is shorter than vCard: MECARD:N:Yamada,Taro;TEL:090-1234-5678;EMAIL:taro@example.jp;; Fields are separated by โ;โ and the family and given names by โ,โ. Any \ ; , or : in the input gets a \ in front so it is not mistaken for a separator.

Things to be aware of
- The iPhone camera may not recognise MeCard as a contact. For the widest support, use the vCard tool.
- For company names or URLs, vCard, with more fields, is a better fit.
- Your details are used only in your browser and never sent anywhere.

Whatโs the difference between MeCard and vCard?
Both exchange contact information via QR code, but MeCard is a simple proprietary format that became popular in Japanese mobile phone culture, while vCard is an international format standardized in RFC 6350. Most smartphones can read both.
Can names contain semicolons or commas?
Yes โ per the MeCard format, the delimiter characters โ;โ, โ,โ, โ:โ and โ\โ in field values are escaped automatically.
What happens when itโs scanned?
Most smartphones will open the contacts app with the entered information pre-filled as a new contact when the QR code is scanned.
