How the calculation works
Generate RM4SCC (Royal Mail 4-State Customer Code), the barcode Royal Mail uses to sort mail by postcode automatically. It uses four kinds of bar (full height, ascending, descending and short) and represents each character with four bars. Upper-case letters and digits are allowed; lower case is converted automatically. A check character and the start and stop bars are added automatically. It usually carries the postcode followed by the delivery point suffix (DPS).

Things to be aware of
- RM4SCC is for UK post and cannot be used for Japanese mail. For Japan, use the Japan Post customer barcode tool.
- Spaces and symbols are not allowed; remove the space from the postcode.
- The Dutch KIX code uses the same four-state bars.
