How to use

How the calculation works
Read QR codes and barcodes with the camera on your computer or phone; no app to install. The result appears on screen and can be copied. Everything is processed in your browser and neither the video nor the result is sent anywhere. Decoding uses the open-source ZXing (โzebra crossingโ) library. It reads two-dimensional codes such as QR Code, Data Matrix, Aztec and PDF417, and one-dimensional barcodes such as JAN/EAN, UPC, Code 128 and Code 39. Your browser will first ask for permission to use the camera.
Worked example
Tips for reading โข Bring the code close so it fills the middle of the frame โข Move a little nearer or further until it is in focus โข Tilt slightly to avoid glare If the result is a URL, check it before opening it.
Things to be aware of
- If you block camera access, nothing can be read. You can change the permission in your browserโs site settings.
- Japanese text in Data Matrix or PDF417 codes may appear garbled, depending on how the code was made.
- Some QR codes lead to fake websites. Check the domain before opening an unfamiliar URL.
- Codabar (NW-7) became readable with a fix on 19 September 2026, and UPC-E on 20 September 2026. Code 11, MSI, Pharmacode, the Japan Post customer barcode and Royal Mail cannot be read. See the barcode read test in Guides for details.

Is scanned data stored anywhere?
No, everything is processed in your browser and never sent to a server. Use the copy button to save the result to your clipboard.
I allowed camera access but scanning isn't working.
Make sure you're in good lighting and hold the code steady in focus. Codes that are glossy, glare-affected, or damaged can be harder to detect.
What code formats are supported?
