๐ซ๏ธ Image Blur
Drag and drop an image, or click to select one
Apply a blur effect across an entire uploaded image, with a slider to freely adjust the blur strength. Useful for creating a blurred-background thumbnail or as a stand-in for mosaic-style privacy blurring in a preview image.
How to use
- Drag and drop an image, or click to select a file.
- Adjust the blur strength with the slider.
- Press "Apply" to see a preview, then "Download" to save it.
How the calculation works
Apply a Gaussian blur to the whole image, with a strength from 0 to 30 pixels. A Gaussian blur averages each pixel with its neighbours, weighting nearby pixels more heavily than distant ones, which gives a smooth, natural softening. It uses the browserโs canvas filter. Use it for thumbnails with soft backgrounds or background images that make overlaid text easier to read.
Worked example
Strength guide (for a 1000-pixel-wide image) 2โ4 px: slightly softened 8โ12 px: shapes visible, details gone 20 px and up: only the colours remain, good for backgrounds The same value looks weaker on a larger image.
Things to be aware of
- The edges are blurred against nothing, so they can become slightly transparent or darker.
- Light blur is not a reliable way to hide personal information; a solid block is safer.
- Some browsers do not support the canvas blur filter, in which case nothing changes. Chrome, Edge and Firefox support it.
FAQ
Can I blur just part of the image?
No, the current version applies the blur effect uniformly across the whole image.
What's the range for the blur strength?
From 0 to 30 pixels โ the larger the number, the stronger the blur effect.
Is my uploaded image sent to a server?
No, all processing happens entirely in your browser.
