A classic sliding tile puzzle: slide tiles with the arrow keys or on-screen buttons, merging matching numbers as you go, aiming to create the "2048" tile. Your score is tracked and you can restart anytime.
How to use
- Slide the tiles up, down, left, or right using the arrow keys or the on-screen buttons.
- When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one with double the value.
- Try to create a "2048" tile. The game ends when the board fills up and no more moves are possible.
How the calculation works
Slide the tiles on a 4ร4 grid up, down, left or right. Tiles with the same number merge when they collide; build a 2048 tile. Play with the arrow keys or the on-screen arrow buttons. After every move a new tile appears in an empty square (a 2 90% of the time, a 4 10% of the time). A merge doubles the number and adds it to your score. The game is over when no move is possible. The first two tiles are placed at random in your browser when the page opens.
Worked example
2 and 2 โ 4 (+4 points) 4 and 4 โ 8 (+8 points) โฆ 1024 and 1024 โ 2048 (+2048 points) Making 2048 takes the equivalent of 1024 tiles of 2 merged together.
Things to be aware of
- A well-known tip: keep your biggest tile in a corner and never move it away.
- Using only two or three directions keeps the board tidier than using all four.
- The best score is kept only while the page is open.
