๐ช Coin Flip
Press the button
Flip a coin with a realistic 3D animation. Great for settling a decision, deciding who goes first in a game, or making a fair two-way choice.
How to use
- Click "Flip."
- The coin spins in a 3D animation and lands on heads or tails.
- Click again anytime for another flip.
How the calculation works
Press the button to toss an animated 3D coin and get heads or tails. Each side has exactly a 50% chance, unaffected by earlier tosses. Use it to decide who goes first or to settle a choice between two options. Runs of the same side are common. In 10 tosses, there is about an 83% chance of the same side coming up three or more times in a row somewhere.
Worked example
Heads on one toss: 1/2 Two heads in a row: 1/4 Five heads in a row: 1/32 (about 3.1%) Exactly 5 heads in 10 tosses: 252/1024 (about 24.6%) Five heads in ten is the most likely outcome, yet it happens only about one time in four.
Things to be aware of
- Research suggests a real coin lands slightly more often on the side it started on. This tool is exactly 50/50.
- When deciding something important, if the result disappoints you, that may tell you what you really wanted.
- For the odds of streaks, see the Coin Flip Streak Probability tool.
