๐Ÿ‘ฅ Team Generator

6 people

Enter names and click "Generate teams"

Enter a list of names and split them randomly and evenly into a chosen number of teams. Great for sports clubs, events, or parties when you want a fair, unbiased way to form groups.

How to use

  1. Enter one name per line.
  2. Enter the number of teams you want.
  3. Click "Generate teams" to see the randomly assigned teams.

How the calculation works

Enter members one per line and a number of teams to split them into random teams. The whole list is shuffled first (with the Fisherโ€“Yates method) and then dealt out one at a time to team 1, team 2 and so on. So even when the numbers do not divide evenly, team sizes differ by at most one. Randomness comes from the browserโ€™s cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues).

Worked example

Ten people in three teams Team 1: 4 people, Team 2: 3, Team 3: 3 Entering the same name twice treats them as two people, who may land in different teams.

Things to be aware of

  • To balance skill, split at random first and then swap people if a team looks lopsided.
  • Each press of the button gives a new split.
  • Empty lines are ignored.

FAQ

What happens if the number of people doesn't divide evenly into teams?

The names are split as evenly as possible, with any remainder distributed one at a time across the teams.

What if I enter the same name twice?

Duplicate names are still treated as separate entries and assigned independently.

Can I re-roll the teams?

Yes โ€” each time you click "Generate teams" a new random assignment is created.
