How the calculation works
Draw a fortune like the omikuji slips at Japanese shrines, from the best (daikichi) to the worst (daikyล), along with short messages for love, work and money. Odds of each fortune Daikichi (great blessing) 10%, chลซkichi 15%, shลkichi 15%, kichi 25%, suekichi 15%, kyล (bad luck) 15%, daikyล (great bad luck) 5% Any kind of blessing (daikichi, chลซkichi, shลkichi or kichi) comes up 65% of the time. The love, work and money messages are each picked at random from a set of texts.
Worked example
Daikichi on one draw: 10% Daikyล on one draw: 5% No daikichi in three draws: 0.9ยณ โ 72.9% Enjoy it as a New Year shrine visit at home, or compare results with friends.
Things to be aware of
- Shrines disagree on the ranking of some fortunes, such as chลซkichi versus shลkichi and kichi versus suekichi.
- Real shrines use their own proportions, which are almost never published.
